As part of their study of the Atlantic Slave Trade, second line pupils studied the lyrics of the hymn Amazing Grace, which was written by an ex-slave trader after he saw the error of his behaviour. The boys were asked to write a modern version of Amazing Grace in the form of a poem, song or rap. The aim was to persuade people that the slave trade should be abolished, just like Amazing Grace did in the 1800s.
The pupils produced some “amazing” work and we have recorded some of the best here. Please do have a listen to see the creative talents of St Ignatius pupils.
