Y12 Induction Days

We were delighted to welcome over 120 prospective Sixth Form students across Monday 22nd June and Tuesday 23rd June for two vibrant and engaging induction days. The events provided an excellent introduction to life in the Sixth Form, offering students a taste of both the academic and enrichment opportunities available. We began with a warm welcome over breakfast, followed by a lively and competitive quiz that quickly set the tone for collaboration and friendly competition. Students then experienced their very first A Level lesson, giving them a valuable insight into the pace, challenge and independence expected in Sixth Form study. A range of team-building activities encouraged students to form new friendships and develop key skills, with highlights including the challenge of constructing the tallest tower using marshmallows and spaghetti, alongside a series of energetic team games. These activities fostered communication, creativity and resilience—qualities that will underpin their success in the years ahead. Students also benefited from an informative session led by VolkerFitzpatrick as part of our Ambition programme, who shared valuable insights into careers and apprenticeships in the construction industry, including their work alongside Transport for London. This provided an important introduction to the wide range of pathways available beyond Sixth Form. The induction days also gave students the opportunity to explore the breadth of our academic and extra-curricular offer. Students signed up for a wide range of enrichment activities, including debate club, tennis, football, basketball, baking and board games, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy alongside their studies. In addition, they were introduced to key academic opportunities such as The Brilliant Club, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and Core Maths—programmes designed to stretch and challenge students while enhancing their future university and career prospects.  We look forward to welcoming students back in August as we celebrate their examination results and formally enrol them into the Sixth Form, ready to begin the next exciting chapter of their educational journey.

2Am Medics - Medical Mentoring Programme

This term, a group of alumni who are currently resident doctors returned to St Ignatius to support our Y12 students through a structured series of interactive workshops. These mentoring sessions were designed to give students a realistic insight into the medical profession, develop key clinical and communication skills, and support preparation for the UCAT and medical school applications. We are extremely grateful to Kyle Joh-Campbel and Neville Okafor from 2 AM Medics for generously giving their time, expertise and support.

Dof Silver

Y12 DofE students have recently completed their Qualifying Silver DofE Expedition in Chiltern Hills. All students have successfully passed the expedition and one step closer to completing their award! All students demonstrated excellent teamwork and leadership skills, along with high proficiency in map reading and camp craft. The valuable life skills given from the DofE Award will contribute into the student's’ continued success not only in school but also beyond school. They have all been pushed out of their comfort zones during the 3 day expedition, giving them the opportunity to go beyond limits and achieve their full potential.

China Trip: Day 5 🇨🇳 Post 3/3 After Dinner, the groups participated in a Sino-British Friendship Social Evening. Year 9s were grouped together with their Language partners and completed their activities in Chinese. It was an enjoyable evening!

China Trip: Day 5 🇨🇳 Post 2/3 After Lunch, we visited a local secondary school where students performed a dubbing competition for us. Our boys had conversations with peers to better understand Chinese schooling, developing their speaking skills.

China Trip: Day 4 🇨🇳 Post 4/4 Following lunch, students all participated in making a decorative lions head. Students were given instructions in Chinese and were asked to decorate it as described. Fun fact, a large lion head takes 3 months to make

China Trip: Day 4 🇨🇳 Post 3/4 In the afternoon, we tried a range of traditional dishes for lunch. Students were shown how to prepare the utensils for a meal by Ms Li before digging in! Loads of dishes were new to students, further enriching them!

China Trip: Day 4 🇨🇳 Post 1/4 We started off early, as we went for an excursion to Foshan. In the morning, we visited Zumiao Temple and Museum. Here we learnt more about the Chinese culture and beliefs.     Video

China Trip: Day 3 🇨🇳 Post 4/4 After dinner, we headed to a shopping mall! Students were given tasks by their teachers to complete, which included having conversations with store staff regarding products. Once done, they got a few items.🛍️

China Trip: Day 3 🇨🇳 Post 3/4 The afternoon session only got better! Year 9s learnt how to make traditional Chinese food. Mrs Chen taught the history of the dish and how to make JIU CAU HE ZI. They not only made the dish but also ate it too!      Video   Video

China Trip: Day 3 🇨🇳 Post 2/4 Following lunch, our students participated in a paper cutting workshop. Students learnt about the history of paper cutting and were shown how to make a beautiful peach design, before doing their own!
