Speak Out Challenge Grand Final

We are incredibly proud of Kevin in Year 10 for representing St Ignatius so brilliantly at the Jack Petchey Speak Out Grand Final this week. Reaching the Grand Final places Kevin among the very best young speakers in the country, and he should be immensely proud of this outstanding achievement. Kevin's success continues a remarkable record for the College. His victory at the Regional Final in January marked St Ignatius' third consecutive regional title, a fantastic achievement that reflects the strength of public speaking across the school and the hard work of the staff and students involved. His appearance at the Grand Final also means that, for the second year running, a St Ignatius student has progressed all the way to the national final! It was particularly special to see Adam, last year's Grand Final winner, return to the competition as a judge. His presence was a wonderful reminder of the talent and success that St Ignatius students continue to demonstrate.

Work Experience Week

Throughout the week of 6-10th July, our Y12 students took part on their work experience week and had the opportunity to experience different working environments, learn from industry professionals and develop valuable skills that will support them in their future education and career journeys. We were delighted to see the diverse range of sectors with employers including AXA, the NHS, Kennedy's Law, VolkerFitzpatrick, Enfield Council, Barhale, Pinsent Masons, Aon, EE and many more. We know that applying for and securing a placement can feel daunting, so we want to congratulate our students on the effort, resilience and positivity they have shown every step of the way. Their willingness to embrace new experiences, ask questions and make the most of every opportunity is something to be incredibly proud of.

Y12 Induction Days

We were delighted to welcome over 120 prospective Sixth Form students across Monday 22nd June and Tuesday 23rd June for two vibrant and engaging induction days. The events provided an excellent introduction to life in the Sixth Form, offering students a taste of both the academic and enrichment opportunities available. We began with a warm welcome over breakfast, followed by a lively and competitive quiz that quickly set the tone for collaboration and friendly competition. Students then experienced their very first A Level lesson, giving them a valuable insight into the pace, challenge and independence expected in Sixth Form study. A range of team-building activities encouraged students to form new friendships and develop key skills, with highlights including the challenge of constructing the tallest tower using marshmallows and spaghetti, alongside a series of energetic team games. These activities fostered communication, creativity and resilience—qualities that will underpin their success in the years ahead. Students also benefited from an informative session led by VolkerFitzpatrick as part of our Ambition programme, who shared valuable insights into careers and apprenticeships in the construction industry, including their work alongside Transport for London. This provided an important introduction to the wide range of pathways available beyond Sixth Form. The induction days also gave students the opportunity to explore the breadth of our academic and extra-curricular offer. Students signed up for a wide range of enrichment activities, including debate club, tennis, football, basketball, baking and board games, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy alongside their studies. In addition, they were introduced to key academic opportunities such as The Brilliant Club, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and Core Maths—programmes designed to stretch and challenge students while enhancing their future university and career prospects.  We look forward to welcoming students back in August as we celebrate their examination results and formally enrol them into the Sixth Form, ready to begin the next exciting chapter of their educational journey.

2Am Medics - Medical Mentoring Programme

2AM Medics is a mentoring programme set up by a group of St Ignatius alumni who are currently resident doctors. This term, we were extremely grateful to have Kyle Joh-Campbel and Neville Okafor return to St Ignatius to support our Y12 students who hope to pursure a career in medicine through a series of interactive workshops. These mentoring sessions were designed to give students a realistic insight into the medical profession, develop key clinical and communication skills, and support preparation for the UCAT and medical school applications. We are extremely proud of 2 AM Medics and grateful for them generously giving their time, expertise and support.

Dof Silver

Y12 DofE students have recently completed their Qualifying Silver DofE Expedition in Chiltern Hills. All students have successfully passed the expedition and one step closer to completing their award! All students demonstrated excellent teamwork and leadership skills, along with high proficiency in map reading and camp craft. The valuable life skills given from the DofE Award will contribute into the student's’ continued success not only in school but also beyond school. They have all been pushed out of their comfort zones during the 3 day expedition, giving them the opportunity to go beyond limits and achieve their full potential.

Senior Football: Catholic Cup Final Thriller Ends in Heartbreak

The Catholic Cup Final delivered a spectacle worthy of the occasion, as St Ignatius College's senior football team battled fiercely against St Thomas More in a dramatic contest that swung relentlessly from one side to the other. Featuring a combined squad of Year 11 to Year 13 students, the match was a showcase not only of talent but of resilience, determination, and school pride. The game began with St Thomas More asserting themselves early and breaking through to take a 1–0 lead in the first 15 minutes, finishing confidently and placing immediate pressure on the Ignatius side. Despite the early setback, the response from our senior boys was commendable. The team gradually settled into the match, finding rhythm in midfield and beginning to stretch their opponents. Their persistence paid off as Ignatius levelled the score at 1–1, bringing renewed energy to both the players and the supporters. However, just as it seemed momentum had shifted, St Thomas More struck again in the closing moments of the first half. A well-timed attack caught us off guard, restoring their advantage and sending them into the break 2–1 ahead. The second half opened in the worst possible way for us as St Thomas More scored quickly after the restart, extending their lead to 3–1 and appearing to take firm control of the contest. At this stage, many might have expected the game to slip away but our senior team had other ideas. Demonstrating impressive character, the team refused to concede defeat. They fought back with conviction, applying sustained pressure and creating opportunities. Their efforts were rewarded with a crucial second goal, narrowing the deficit and reigniting belief. With time ticking away, we continued to press, and our determination culminated in a dramatic equaliser to make it 3–3 by full time. The closing minutes of playing time provided one of the match’s most contentious moments. Ignatius thought they had completed a remarkable comeback with a late winning goal, only for celebrations to be cut short by the assistant referee’s flag for offside. With tensions high and emotions running deep, the match proceeded into extra time. Despite both teams pushing for a decisive breakthrough, extra time yielded no further goals. Fatigue began to show, yet the commitment from both sides never wavered. Ultimately, the final would be decided by the drama of penalties. In the shootout, both teams displayed composure under pressure, converting their attempts with precision. However, the decisive moment came when St Thomas More’s goalkeeper produced a crucial save from Ignatius’ final penalty, denying what had been a well-struck effort on target. With that stop, St Thomas More secured victory, bringing an end to a gripping contest. Although defeat on penalties is always a difficult outcome, St Ignatius College's Senior Team can reflect with pride on a performance defined by resilience and unity. Coming back from 3–1 down in a final requires not only skill but immense belief, something this team demonstrated in abundance. This match will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most thrilling Catholic Cup Finals in recent years. While the result did not fall in our favour this year, the players represented our school with distinction, determination and sportsmanship whilst embodying all of our Ignatian Values as they remained gracious in defeat. For ​many of our students, this match marks the conclusion of their school football journey, and what a way to finish. Though the trophy narrowly eluded them, their efforts and commitment leave a lasting legacy for future Ignatius teams to build upon.

Visitation

As one of eight Jesuit schools across Britain, our community is proud to belong to a rich and long standing educational tradition. Jesuit schools in the UK share a common mission of forming young people who are “men and women for others,” committed to faith, justice, compassion, and excellence. As part of that community, we were deeply honoured to welcome the Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in Britain, Fr Peter Gallagher SJ, along with Andrew Johnson, the Provincial Delegate for Education, for a special visit. During their time with us, Fr Gallagher and Mr Johnson toured the school, met with students and staff, and gained insight into our ongoing commitment to the Jesuit Pupil Profile and our work as part of the broader Province. Fr Gallagher also presided over a beautiful and inspiring Mass. We are sincerely grateful for the time, affirmation, and encouragement they shared with us.

China Trip: Day 5 🇨🇳 Post 3/3 After Dinner, the groups participated in a Sino-British Friendship Social Evening. Year 9s were grouped together with their Language partners and completed their activities in Chinese. It was an enjoyable evening!

China Trip: Day 4 🇨🇳 Post 3/4 In the afternoon, we tried a range of traditional dishes for lunch. Students were shown how to prepare the utensils for a meal by Ms Li before digging in! Loads of dishes were new to students, further enriching them!

China Trip: Day 3 🇨🇳 Post 4/4 After dinner, we headed to a shopping mall! Students were given tasks by their teachers to complete, which included having conversations with store staff regarding products. Once done, they got a few items.🛍️

China Trip: Day 3 🇨🇳 Post 2/4 Following lunch, our students participated in a paper cutting workshop. Students learnt about the history of paper cutting and were shown how to make a beautiful peach design, before doing their own!
