Sixth Form Sleep Out

On Friday, 35+ Sixth Form students took part in our annual sleep-out and succeeded in sleeping outside in the cold with little more than a sleeping bag and cardboard to keep warm, and a cup of soup and a slice of bread to keep them fed.  This year the charity we are supporting is The Passage, which provides resources to encourage, inspire, and challenge people who have or are experiencing homelessness, to transform their lives. Help us reach our goal!

Tate Modern Trip

Last week, some of our students had the opportunity to venture into Central London and despite the strong winds, visited Tate Modern, the modern art museum. They spent hours engaging with art and different artists, as well as working on their own pieces.  We have even received a positive word from their tour guide, stating: 'On behalf of my colleagues at Tate, I’d like to pass on our thanks to you for your management of the visit and to your students for behaving so considerately to the members of the public at Tate Modern and to other staff teams and their schedules. It was also great to see how well the three classes worked together and in being so excellently supported by the other members of staff with you.' Well done boys!

High Achievers Cambridge Workshop

Last Thursday a group of our Highest Achievers from year 12 had an amazing opportunity to visit Newnham College, Cambridge University for an exclusive workshop. The event consisted of providing invaluable insights and guidance for students aspiring to apply to institutions from Russell Group Universities, such as Cambridge. We are beyond grateful for the opportunity to partake in such an event and congratulate our year 12 students on their achievements!

Ski Trip 2024

This half-term break was jam-packed with excitement! Finally, some of our students got to embark on the heavily anticipated annual Ski Trip, and this time, they headed to the stunning Austrian Alps! After a journey that was both fun and lengthy, our boys had an entire week to indulge in the joy of skiing. The snow-covered mountains looked absolutely breathtaking, and the boys were itching to hit the slopes (plus, they couldn't get enough of the delicious traditional Austrian food!). Thankfully, the weather cooperated perfectly, adding to their enjoyment. But the trip wasn't all about skiing. After their thrilling days on the slopes, they spent quality time together, watching films, playing foosball, and even hosting a quiz night! A huge thank you to all the staff members who accompanied our students on this trip. Because of you, our boys have made memories that will last a lifetime! London Sinfonietta Residency in our College

St Ignatius College was privileged to host the London Sinfonietta for a residency programme at the beginning of this week. As part of the residency, their orchestra rehearsed in our hall for their concert presented at the Southbank Centre on Wednesday 24 January. Our Year 7s were treated to an open rehearsal, watching up close how an orchestra rehearses. Similarly, the public also had an opportunity to watch a rehearsal, getting an inside perspective on instruments and how a musical piece is put together in an orchestra. Nine of our pupils who attended workshops with the Sinfonietta last year had the wonderful opportunity to perform their piece with the Sinfonietta in the concert at the Southbank Centre. Their performance was outstanding. Finally, 24 Year 9 pupils attended three days of intensive workshops with presenters from the London Sinfonietta focussing on composition skills. Pupils worked in small groups and created their own compositions. With the support of some students from the Purcell Academy, our pupils also learnt how to notate their pieces. Some of the pieces may be performed at a concert in May this year at the Dugdale Centre in Enfield Town.

Prizegiving

Celebrating Success: Honouring Remarkable Achievements On a night filled with jubilation and pride, the annual prizegiving ceremony brought together students, teachers, and families to celebrate the exceptional accomplishments of the Year 11, Year 12, and 2023 leavers. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation as each student's dedication and resilience were recognised and applauded. It was a momentous occasion, not only to celebrate academic excellence but also to commend the personal growth and development that each student has undergone.

Your perfect job... On Day 4 of Careers Week, students looked at how their favourite subjects can shape their future. They explored skills they enjoy using, matched these to real‑world roles, and discovered new industries they may not have considered.

What next? Day 2 of Careers Week gave students an opportunity to consider their future pathways. We looked at routes in to different careers and the next steps to consider after GCSEs. Students also discussed how to gain workplace experience.

What am I good at? We kicked off Careers Week with a brilliant session all about recognising our own skills, strengths and areas for growth. A big thank you to everyone who took part. Careers Week is off to a strong start!

We were honoured to be visited by the Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in Britain, Fr Peter Gallagher SJ and the Provincial Delegate for Education, Andrew Johnson. They toured the school, met with staff and students and Fr Gallagher conducted an inspiring Mass.
