'Speak Out Challenge' Victory for St Ignatius

13 February 2025

We were honoured to host the Jack Petchy ‘Speak Out Challenge’ regional finals here on Monday. The evening showcased the talents of 15 young speakers from schools all over Enfield whose journeys had started when they participated in workshops delivered by The Speakers Trust in their own schools.

It was no small feat delivering their speeches to a panel of 7 discerning judges as well as a large audience and we applaud of all of the participants for presenting themselves so well.

We are very proud of our Year 10 students who took part; Adam Ravatt winning the competition and Demir Seyranoglu coming third. Adam’s performance will now go through to the semi final selection day where the judges decide who goes through to the grand final in July where they perform to an audience of over 1000 people!

The person of the week is Pope Francis. He was focused on championing the rights of the poor and the marginalised. The word of the week is conclave, a private meeting but used in the Catholic Church to mean a meeting of the Cardinals to elect a new pope. #AMDG pic.twitter.com/qm7sRgIpDL

We finished the term with a Tenebrae Service. After each of six readings, a candle was extinguished and the lights turned down. After the seventh reading, the candle was taken out of the chapel, leaving us in darkness and silence to reflect.#AMDG pic.twitter.com/6K9Brdb8kZ

Students spent a night sleeping out to raise money for JRS UK (Jesuit Refugee Service). They heard a talk about JRS UK, shared a simple meal and took part in prayer before settling down If you want to support our fundraising efforts, you can donate here: https://t.co/LxjuKSb7ox pic.twitter.com/gzGAZKFUo7
